Dallas ISD Board to Consider Bullying Policy

On Thursday, November 18, at 5:30 PM, the DISD Board will take up consideration of a bullying policy to institute definitions, policies, training requirements and procedures for enforcement.  The meeting will be held at the DISD Headquarters (3700 Ross Avenue) with leaders from the GLBT community planning to contribute to the discussion before the board.  This proposed policy, under development for some time, has been recently expanded to enumerate protected categories including sexual orientation (actual or perceived) as well as gender identity and expression.

In light of the heart breaking number of youth suicides related to sexual orientation and gender identity, the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance supports this proposed policy and encourages the DISD Board of Trustees to pass it at the meeting on Thursday evening.  Additionally, DGLA encourages everyone in the community to attend the meeting as a show of support.  Following a tradition observed at several other local governmental leadership councils, while GLBT leaders are speaking to the Board of Trustees, you are encouraged to stand up as a sign of solidarity with the speaker and to underscore your support.

The proposed policy may be reviewed at the Dallas Voice:  Bullying Policy Revised
